Reimagining Urban Spaces in Central Ninth
Welcome to the Mead Avenue Underpass Project! We're excited to transform the space under the freeway overpass on Mead Avenue into a vibrant community plaza. Our vision is to create a welcoming, functional, and aesthetically pleasing area that serves the diverse needs of our Central Ninth neighborhood and creates healthy and happy community. Community Lead, Community Engaged
This project is a grassroots movement. Resident's in the community pitched the idea to UDOT and Salt Lake City. We are looking for volunteers to help us cleanup and maintain the space during several events to be held in 2025. Gallery at the Underpass
The Central Ninth Community Council is partnering with the Utah Museum of Fine Arts to bring a popup gallery stroll to the Mead Ave. Underpass during the spring and summer of 2025. Check back here for more information. |
About the Project
Our neighborhood is rapidly redeveloping, attracting a younger demographic, a variety of housing types, and innovative startups. This transformation brings a unique opportunity to reimagine our urban spaces. Too long has the off ramp for West Temple split this community and created an unused eye sore. This new plaza under the overpass will offer a place for connection, relaxation, recreation, and community gatherings, enhancing the charm of Central Ninth and Ballpark neighborhoods. Volunteer RegistrationEvent Timing: Saturday, April 26th. 10AM - 2PM
Lunch provided around 1PM! Event Location: Mead Underpass, located under the overpasses between 200 West and Jefferson St, along Mead Avenue (about 1000 South) Contact our organizer Caroline at [email protected] May Popup
